Anna is a lifelong resident of the small Austrian town of Hallein, which was hit by devastating floods in July 2021. In Out of Nowhere, she revisits the disaster: you move with her through marshes, wetlands, and a home slowly veiled by rising waters. With the climate crisis manifesting itself in many similar stories of raging weather, she asks a question all of us should be asking ourselves: is there something we could have done to prevent this? The project shows how careful landscape planning and ecological urbanism may be one of our most vital acts of self-protection. If we can come together in the aftermath of a disaster, shouldn’t we be able to do so in preparation?
